Varieties include:


  • Lead: It is typically silver to gray in color, files easily, heavy in weight, but dents easily. Lead is also non-magnetic. Lead is used in wheel weights, fishing weights, plumbing fixtures, and in sheet form for protection in x-ray units.
  • Magnesium: It is gray in color and non-magnetic. Magnesium is used in dock plates, ladders, and various other industrial applications.

  • Zinc: It is gray to dark gray in color and non-magnetic. Zinc is used in window slides and printing plates.     

  • Zinc Die Cast: This form of zinc is light silver to gray in color, files easily, and is non-magnetic. Die cast is heavier than aluminum but lighter than lead. Typical uses are carburetors, chrome plated strips on appliances, cars, and boats.
